| On 01 Sep 2008, At 13:43:04 (GMT-10:00), sendoshin had this to say: | World Of Darkness Phoenix As one of the largest cities in the United States, you'd think Phoenix, Arizona would have at least a passing comment in some of White Wolf's World Of Darkness material. But thorough inspection of the official publications (Old WoD and New WoD alike), as well as a scouring of the Internet Machine, turns up nothing. Well, that's not good enough for me.
The topic would never have come up without the addition of a new player to our local gaming group. His first task was, of course, to create a character with which to play. His character's background has him coming from Phoenix. Naturally, as a reasonably good Storyteller (by which I mean I didn't want to clash with existing stories, as well as the fact I'm a bit lazy and if someone else has done all the work of creating the WoD aspect of someplace then why should I reinvent the wheel?), I turned to my references to help flesh out the background some more. Nothing came up.
So my next stop was Google Maps. From there I discovered the vastness of the city - though it is the fifth largest city by population (thirteenth largest metro area by population), it sprawls over a huge area of the Arizona desert. Several suburbs ("urban villages") make up the metro area around the city itself, but much like other metros around the world, most of the suburbs are considered merely part of the city. Anyhow, with such a massive amount of land area at my disposal, I knew that I could easily create something fairly epic. And that's when I decided I needed a bit more information than the WoD materials could provide. It was time (finally) to dig into White Wolf's high fantasy line: Exalted.
The sheer amount of power possessed by the Exalted would awe even the most powerful Mage or Sorceror of the modern day. The weakest Exalt could blink and exert more power than an entire cabal. With so much power at their disposal, it would be a simple matter to have them create and leave behind many relics of exceptional power - indeed, each item left behind would probably even act as a Node for a present day Mage. Of course, some would need to be activated first, but even so.
I have since taken my notes to Google Earth and things are slowly becoming thoroughly entangled. I don't know how many other campaigns have striven to tie the world of the Exalted into the World Of Darkness, but any story set in Phoenix will certainly have the potential to do exactly that. Chances are I'll even use Phoenix to bridge the Old WoD into the New - something not even White Wolf themselves have done.
Anyhow, stay tuned. More news on this and other things are likely to show up in the recent future. And of course, may the Winds guide you in your Journey.

Just to let you know that my life isn't over yet.

| On 08 Aug 2008, At 09:26:51 (GMT-10:00), sendoshin had this to say: | Rescheduled Due To Undocking Preps... I recently wrote the phrase "rescheduled due to undocking preps" 129 times. This was in reference to several preventive maintenance "checks" which were unable to be completed this week because we're getting ready to put the ship back in the water. However, many other things, not necessarily related to work, have also been put off, for the same reason.
One of those things is this site.
I haven't forgotten it. I'm just very busy. Poke around a bit; the stuff that does work should work pretty well, but let me know if you find any problems - all this stuff is built from scratch. I'll be around when I get the chance.
And of course, may the Winds guide you in your Journey.

| On 03 Aug 2008, At 09:06:05 (GMT-10:00), sendoshin had this to say: | Here we go again... So I've been suffering from insomnia lately. It's hard to fall asleep, and that makes it harder to wake up again. What little sleep I do get is broken and not very good. Even when I do wake up on time, I wake up exhausted. It's really not much fun at all.
But now I'm going to get a first class, one-way ticket to go see the captain. Because I was late for duty one too many times. Because I have trouble waking up on time to get to work. Because I have trouble falling asleep in the first place.
I don't go to bed at unreasonable hours. I'm almost always trying to fall asleep at about 2200. When I find myself still lying there awake at 2230, I get back up and attempt to tire myself out even more. Back to the bed at 2300. And so on until I actually get lucky and fall asleep.
I'm so exhausted that I'll occasionally doze off throughout the day. This isn't sleep. It just staves off the exhaustion for a little bit longer so I don't collapse under the weight of my own undertakings.
As I write this, the paperwork for sending me up to the old man's office is being printed, signed, and delivered to the people in charge today. Tomorrow morning, it'll be one of the first things the old man sees. By the end of the week, I'll be an E3. And there's nothing I can do about it because that's the way the Navy is set up. It doesn't matter the reasons. If you're late, you get screwed.
My advice to you: don't join the military if you have any other path available to you unless you already live in a military lifestyle. Chronic insomniacs will only be doing themselves harm signing that dotted line. Take it from someone on the inside. It's generally not really worth it.
Anyhow, I really do need to get moving. I'm already horrifyingly late. I wrote this while the iron heated up. I will look for you on the other side. Don't expect much. But still, as always, may the Winds guide you in your Journey.

| On 25 Jun 2008, At 20:40:41 (GMT-10:00), DanHunsaker had this to say: | Forum Upgrade It's a minor upgrade, but it's a significant one. Go look at the forums. The first thing you should notice - if you haven't been gone long enough to notice new topics, of which there haven't been any for well over a year and a half now - is that the date of the most recent post in each zone is shown, along with a link to the topic in which the post was made. More importantly, the link to the most recent post site-wide is hilighted so that it stands out from the others. So you can tell relatively quickly what's been said by whom and where. Might be a bit dry and boring to the casual browser, but for those that like to know when something has actually been said, this is great news.
Beyond that, everything still operates the same. I'll be working on the DARC as soon as I decide on an appropriate uploading component - straight HTTP uploads are too unreliable, especially for larger files such as videos and software. Once that's in place, you'll be able to upload your work to the DARC and start building a true Digital Arts and Resources Center from what is now just a placeholder.
Take care out there in the big bad world, and may the Winds guide you in your Journey.
